Note : Answer all questions. All questions carry equal marks.

1. Explain with reference to the context any four of the following passages in about 150 words each :

(a) The new poets still quoted the old poets, but no one spoke in verse of the pregnant woman drowned, with perhaps twins in her, kicking at blank walls even before birth.

4. (a) What are the various themes that Rushdie deals with in Midnight's Children?

5. (a) What are the main elements of a short story ? Illustrate with the help of any one of the short stories of your choice.
