Q.1 Explain the terms absorptivity, reflectivity and transmissivity of radiant energy. How are they related to each other for a black body and an opaque body?

Therefore, its absorptivity (α) is 1, and its reflectivity (ρ) and transmissivity (τ) are both 0. A black body absorbs all radiation that falls on it and does not reflect or transmit any.

An opaque body is one that does not transmit any light through it. Therefore, its transmissivity (τ) is 0. However, an opaque body may reflect and absorb radiation. The sum of its reflectivity (ρ) and absorptivity (α) would be 1, meaning that whatever radiation is not reflected is absorbed. So, for an opaque body, ρ + α = 1.
