Defination of standard of emission:- Emission regulations are legal requirements that limit the amount of air pollutants that can be released into the atmosphere. Emission standards set quantitative limits on the quantity of a certain air pollutant that may be released from a particular source over a particular time period. Emission limits determine the most amount of a certain pollutant that can be produced by a single source, whether mobile or stationary, and discharged into the atmosphere. These standards are provided by the US Environmental Protection Agency and must be followed by all engines, both on and off the road (EPA). 

What are standards of emission or discharge of environmental pollutants-The Clean Air Act (CAA), which was most recently updated in 1990, gives the EPA the authority to regulate engine emissions and air quality in general in the United States.

Emission Discharge of environmental pollutants:-

What are standards of emission or discharge of environmental pollutants-The terms of "discharge of a pollutant" and "discharge of pollutants" each refer to the following: (A) any addition of any pollutant to waters of the navigable zone from any point source; and (B) any addition of any pollutant to waters of the contiguous zone or the ocean from any point source other than a vessel or other floating craft.

There are some points:-

1. Any emission or discharge of environmental pollutants from industries, operations, or possessions must not exceed the appropriate ambient air concentration as noted and listed for each pollutant in Schedule VII items (3) to (5).

2. No matter what is stated in sub-rule (3) or sub-rule (6), an industry, operation, or process that started producing after May 16, 1981, but before December 31, 1991, and has provided sufficient evidence of at least beginning physical work for the establishment of facilities to meet the specified standards within a time-bound programme, to the satisfaction of the concerned State Pollution Control Board, shall comply with such standards as listed below.

3. The regulations for emission or discharge of environmental pollutants from the industries, operations, or processes are for the protection and improvement of the environment, as well as for preventing and reducing environmental pollution.

4. Regardless of what is stated in sub-rule (1), the Central Board or a State Board may specify more stringent standards than those stated in (7) [Schedules I to IV] in regards to any particular industry, operation, or process depending on the quality of the recipient system and after recording reasons.
