1. Write short notes on any two of the following :

2. Outline the characteristics of human language. Show how human language is different from other forms of communication.
3. Describe in detail the English consonants and show how they are different from vowels.
4. What are the consequences of bilingualism/multilingualism on the individual, the social group and the languages ?
5. Outline the salient features of code-mixing and code-switching with suitable examples.
6. Discuss the characteristics of American English giving suitable examples.
7. Distinguish between dialect and language. How does a dialect achieve the status of a language ? Explain.
