Part 1: The Project Synopsis (The Proposal)

1. Selection of the Topic

The first step is choosing a theme. Your topic should ideally be related to your specialization (HR, Finance, Marketing, Operations, or IT). It should address a specific problem within an organization or an industry-wide issue. For example, instead of a broad topic like "Marketing in India," choose something specific like "A Study on Consumer Buying Behavior towards Electric Vehicles in Delhi."

2. Finding a Project Supervisor (Guide)

You cannot do this project alone. You must find a supervisor who meets IGNOU's criteria. They should either be a professor at an IGNOU Study Centre or a professional with a PhD/Master’s degree and at least five years of experience in the relevant field. You will need to submit their bio-data along with your synopsis.

3. Structure of the Synopsis (15–20 Pages)

Your synopsis should follow this specific flow:

  • Title of the Project: A clear, concise title.

  • Statement of the Problem: Why is this research necessary? What gap are you trying to fill?

How to Submit the Final Report

1.    Online/Offline: Check the latest guidelines on the IGNOU website. Most Regional Centres now accept digital uploads via a dedicated project portal, but some still require physical copies.

2.    Required Documents: Ensure you attach the Original Approved Synopsis and the Approved Bio-data of the Supervisor. Without these, the report will be rejected.
