Q1. What are the four stages of development, as proposed by Piaget?

Jean Piaget, a Swiss psychologist, proposed a theory of cognitive development that suggests that children progress through four stages of cognitive development, each building upon the previous one. These stages are:

Sensorimotor Stage (Birth to 2 years old): During this stage, infants learn about the world through their senses and actions. They begin to understand object permanence, which is the concept that objects continue to exist even when they are out of sight. This stage is characterized by the development of basic motor skills and the coordination of sensory experiences with physical actions.

Preoperational Stage (2 to 7 years old): In this stage, children develop language and are able to think symbolically. They also begin to engage in pretend play and understand the perspectives of others, although their thinking is still egocentric, meaning they struggle to understand that others may have different viewpoints than their own. However, they still lack the ability to perform operations, which are reversible mental actions.

Concrete Operational Stage (7 to 11 years old): During this stage, children become more logical in their thinking. They begin to understand conservation, which is the concept that certain properties of objects remain the same even when their shape or arrangement changes. They also develop the ability to perform mental operations on concrete objects and events but struggle with abstract or hypothetical reasoning.

Formal Operational Stage (11 years old and up): In this final stage, individuals develop the ability to think abstractly and logically. They can engage in hypothetical-deductive reasoning and think about multiple variables in complex situations. This stage marks the attainment of adult-like thinking abilities, including problem-solving, reasoning, and understanding of abstract concepts.
