Q1. Explain the
concept ‘Ecosystem Function’ with suitable examples.
Ecosystem function refers to the processes and activities

balance of the ecosystem and ensuring the survival of its constituent
organisms. Here are some key ecosystem functions along with examples:
Nutrient Cycling:
Example: In a forest ecosystem, fallen leaves and dead
organisms are broken down by decomposers like fungi and bacteria. These
decomposers release nutrients such as nitrogen, phosphorus, and carbon back
into the soil, which are then taken up by plants for growth. This cycling of
nutrients ensures the availability of essential elements for the organisms
within the ecosystem.
Primary Production:
Example: Photosynthesis, carried out by plants and algae, is
a crucial ecosystem function where solar energy is converted into chemical
