Explain the concept of role with suitable examples.- A role is a broad pattern of behaviour that is accepted by society and serves as a way to define and situate a person in that culture. Additionally, it acts as a method for managing recurring circumstances and adjusting to other people's roles (e.g., parent–child roles).

Meaning of Role:

His status and position as a result of which he is required to perform specific duties. Roles are the name for these tasks. In life, we can play a wide range of roles, including those of a parent, businessperson, shop assistant, customer, bus driver, teacher, voter, politician, and so on. Group behaviour includes these responsibilities as a necessary component.

1. Action Aspect of Status:

The action component of status is what is known as the function. There are many different kinds of acts that must be taken in order to live up to social expectations. Not the individual's will, but societal sanction, determines whether these activities are taken. Since every social role has a cultural foundation, this is why it is considered to be thus.

2. Changing Concept of Role:

Society roles, as previously mentioned, are in line with social values, ideas, patterns, etc. The concept of the role also changes as a result of these shifting ideals, values, and objects. The job that is appropriate at one point in time could not be appropriate at another.

3. Limited Field of Operation:

Each position has a specific region in which it can operate, and each role must stay inside that area. An officer, for instance, has a job to do at the office, but that job ends when he gets home to his family.

4. Roles are not Performed 100% for the Fulfillment of the Expectations:

Everyone is not able to fulfil their responsibilities to the fullest extent possible in line with societal expectations. Differentiations are unavoidable. To the full delight of the kids, for instance, one could not be able to fulfil his role.

5. Difference in the Importance of Role:

All of the positions are not equally significant from a sociocultural perspective. Compared to others, some roles are greater and others are less significant. While roles of general importance are referred to as general roles, roles of the utmost importance are referred to as key roles.

Role Conflict:

Explain the concept of role with suitable examples.- Role conflict is the psychological discomfort brought on when people don't filter their roles (personal role conflict), when important people disagree with them about their duties (intra role conflict), or when many roles place expectations on a person that are incompatible with one another (intra role conflict).

Example:- Due to the illness of one of his children, a working parent who was scheduled to arrive on time at work was tardy. When this happens, his obligations as a father and an employer clash. He must take care of his ill child according to the expectations of his fatherly duty, but he must also show up on time for work according to the expectations of his employee role.
