Definition of Waste

Explain principle and steps involved in treatment of solid and liquid wastes in a food processing plant.-Waste is any undesired solid or liquid item that is discarded by homes, communities, institutions, or commercial entities.

The Food waste are:-

Includes food scraps and food trash from restaurants, grocery stores, and other non-residential sources etc. intended for anaerobic digestion or composting.

Two types of Waste is generated :-

1. Solid waste:- By-products that users (households, communities, institutions, commercial entities, etc.) have rejected. Solid waste refers to anything that is solid or semi-solid in nature (other than human waste). Paper, broken glass, kitchen garbage, manure from cows or cowsheds, plastic, textiles, rubber, and agricultural waste are all examples of this type of waste.Composting is the organic material's natural process of decomposition and recycling into compost, a humus-rich soil additive. Any company or organisation that generates food waste can readily breakdown it into high quality compost.

2. Liquid Waste:- Liquid Waste" is defined as unwanted or used water that is discharged from homes, institutions, or business facilities.Large amounts of liquid waste are produced by the food industry, and after going through every feasible recycling phase, they are finally routed to a shared sump known as the effluent sump.
