Does Psychology use sociological concepts and methods? Discuss.- Psychology is broken down into subfields in order to categorise and investigate behaviour linked to broad classifications like personality psychology, clinical psychology, social psychology, developmental psychology, and many others. Each sub-categorization for theory and research helps to organise knowledge and implementation of the findings from the two fields. Individuals who study psychology benefit in a variety of ways, including counselling and programme development. Psychology also helps us comprehend the mind, where the conscious and unconscious work together to assess our knowledge of basic concepts like memory, intuition, and acceptable behaviour.

Understanding Psychology:-

Does Psychology use sociological concepts and methods? Discuss.- The term “psychology” is derived from Greek roots which are psyche, the soul and logia, the study of or the branch of a concept. Psychology, by definition, is the scientific study of mind and behaviour. Psychology was built based on four primary goals which are:

·    Describe : By comparing a person's behaviour to that of other people in their society, descriptions of human behaviour assist people understand the concepts of normal and abnormal behaviour. This clarifies abnormality as a deviation from an individual's norms and expectations

·   Explain: Explaining behaviour helps people comprehend the reasons behind specific behaviours. Theoretical explanations are developed using behavioural observations and descriptions. Theories that explain behaviour help establish a clear cause that can be applied to the entire population.

·       Predict: Once the theories have been produced through explanation, they can be applied as a guide to the behaviour that is expected of a person and be used to forecast future behaviour based on the theoretical evidence.

The methods of psychology are observation and case study:-

Does Psychology use sociological concepts and methods? Discuss.- The observation method in psychology is when a psychologist observes the behavior of someone without interacting with them. This can be done in a natural setting or in a laboratory setting.

The case study method in psychology is used when a psychologist takes detailed notes on one person’s behavior. This is often used to understand rare behaviors.

The survey research method is when a psychologist asks people questions about their thoughts, feelings, or behavior.

The experiment method is when a psychologist changes one variable and observes the effects on another variable. This can be done in a laboratory or in a natural setting.

Which methods do you think are most effective? Why? I think that the observation method is the most effective because it allows the psychologist to see how a person behaves in different situations.

Advantages and limitations of observation method:-

The observation method is one of the most commonly used methods in psychology. This method involves watching and recording the behaviour of people under natural conditions. The observer takes note of everything that is happening in the environment, as well as the participant’s behaviour. This can be a very effective way to collect data, as it allows for an accurate picture of what is happening in the natural environment.

However, there are some limitations to this method. First, it can be difficult to observe all aspects of the situation due to the limited amount of time and space available. Second, observation can be biased if the observer has preconceived notions about what they expect to see. Finally, it can be difficult to interpret the data that is collected.

Understanding Sociology:-

According to its definition, sociology is a field of study concerned with the analysis and justification of social behaviour. It concerns with how people interact and the elements that influence them. Understanding the development and upkeep of organisations that influence social structures is the goal of sociology. The field views social structures like social stratification, social movements, and social change as manifestations of the human need for belonging.

Different between psychology and sociology:-

Psychology is the study of how a person behaves and how both internal and external variables affect that behaviour (nature and nurture). As opposed to studying people as individuals, sociology examines collectives like cultures and social circles and focuses on the members of the collective. Though the obvious distinctions necessitate the creation of distinct fields, there are also parallels between the fields. Both areas seek to comprehend patterns of behaviour, despite the differences in the studied topics. Social psychology, which examines how society affects a person, illustrates the concept of overlap between the two disciplines. This necessitates looking at understanding of individual behaviours in the social context, as well as sociological conceptions of culture, class, and groups.

The concept of psychology and sociology are:-

Psychology makes use of sociological ideas by researching how social influences like culture affect behaviour. For instance, psychologists may research the influence of cultural values and beliefs on human thought and behaviour. They might also research the influence of social positions like race or gender on behaviour.
