Note : Answer any five questions in about 500 words each. Attempt at least two questions from each Section. All questions carry equal marks.

Section—A

1. Discuss the Marxist interpretation of the colonial .economy. Evaluate the neo-liberals' critique of Marxist historiography.

2. Critically examine the spread of earliest farming groups in the Indian subcontinent.

3. What were Pariharas ? Analyse the Pariharas in the context of the Brahmadeya grants.

4. How was the non-agricultural production organised during the medieval period ?

5. Write short notes on any two of the following in about 250 words each :

(a) Ahar and Gilund culture

(b) Ayagars

(c) Sair Jihat taxes

(d) Qasbas in Mughal India

Section—B

6. Examine the nature of overseas trade in the 16-17th centuries.

7. What were the customary rights enjoyed by the forest dwellers ? How were they affected as a result of colonial intervention ?

8. Discuss the changes that took place in the Indian small scale industries during the late 19th and early 20th centuries.

9. Analyse the nature of Indian economic growth in the first three Five Year Plans. 

10. Write short notes on any two of the following in about 250 words each : 

(a) Permanent settlement 

(b) Early census of 1871-72

(c) Re-industrialisation in India in the late 19th century. (d) Globalisation
