Note : Attempt five questions in all — 1 from. Section. A, 3 from Section B and 1 from Section C. All questions carry equal marks.

SECTION A

Answer any one question from this section.

1. Outline the growth and evolution of English studies in India from the nineteenth century to the end of the twentieth century.

2. English is associated with the values of imperialism at the present time. Do you agree ? Discuss.

3. Macaulay's advocacy for the introduction of English in India was actually a tool of socio-political control. Critically examine the Minute in the light of this statement.

8. Discuss the debate over English language and English studies in India in the post-Independence period.

10. Discuss in brief the contribution of Tagore in the formation of a new radical canon in Indian writing.

11. Using any two feminist writers you have studied, discuss the growth of women's literature in India.
