Note : Attempt five questions in all; one from Section A, three from Section B, and one from Section C. All questions carry equal marks.

SECTION A .

Attempt any one question from the following.

1. Examine the process in which the English gained support and consolidation in post-Independence India. 

OR

Critically examine Macaulay's attack on the Orientalist position on Indian Education.

2. Discuss the privileged position of English in the context of translation of literary texts.

SECTION B

Attempt any three questions from this section.

3. Attempt a critical analysis of Michael Madhusudan Dutt's The Captive Ladie and King Porus.

4. Discuss Bankim's Rajmohan's Wife as a novel that strengthens the moral values of the time when it was composed.

5. What does "Nativisation of English" mean in the Indian context ? Explain with examples.

6. What do you understand by the phrase "exploding the canon" ? Explai n.  

7. What are the issues and problems in the construction of a feminist canon in Indian English writing ?
