Note : Attempt any five questions. All questions carry equal marks. Answer each question in approximately 500 words.

1. Trace the development and growth of Commonwealth Literature as an area of academic study.

2. Can the Australian national identity be viewed from the point of view of the Aborigines ? Discuss.

3. Write a note on the Mau Mau Movement as depicted in A Grain of Wheat by Ngugi wa Thiong'o.

4. "The occasional hint at the possibility of a new beginning runs counter to the internal logic of the dramatic events." Do you agree with this comment about Wole Soyinka's A Dance of the Forests ? Give examples from the text.  

5. Write a critical note on the title of Bapsi Sidhwa's novel Ice-Candy Man.  

6. In A House for Mr. Biswas, "the relationship between Mr. Mohan Biswas and his son Anand draws on Naipaul's relationship with his own father." Comment.

7. Many postcolonial writers employ intertextuality to convey their intent. Discuss with reference to one of Derek Walcott's poems.

8. Elaborate on the use of the mandala motif in Patrick White's The Solid Mandala.

9. "The structure of The Stone Angel is based on juxtaposing the past and the present." Elaborate.
